[Product Review] Baby Gear Update: Keekarou, Stokke

We’re now 7 months along the way, and my nesting instincts have kicked in. That means buying, or “collecting,” a lot of stuff for baby boy while trying not to break the bank. Of course…

So thank you dear internet. Thank you for the wonderful YouTube reviews and baby blogs dedicated to baby stuff, and keeping my finances in check. How the heck I would do it without you, I have no idea! Price comparisons have become a breeze and getting a detailed product description is so freakin easy. Plus all of the stuff I’ve seen online I’ve actually been lucky enough to find and test out in stores, so it makes it really easy to finalize my wish list (except for that time when I spent 5 hours on the internet trying to figure out which stroller to buy, because buying a stroller is not easy and is much like buying a car…but that’s another story).

Also, thank you to my baby mama friends for your input and products of choice. What your kid is going through (quite literally), my kid will have to go through eventually, so I take your recommendations to heart. For example, one of my friends told me not to get those colourful foam play mats with removable numbers and letters in the middle because her 1-year old took a massive bite out of a letter! Okay, none of that for baby boy.

Anyway, here are some of our “collectibles” thus far:

Dreams of Velvet - Baby Update 1

This beautiful present was gifted by my brother with tons of stuff in it, ranging from baby clothes to swaddling blankets, a super cool Mustachifier pacifier (can’t wait to take pics with this one), stuffed giraffe toy, hooded towels, socks, mitts, hats, and multi-use wash cloths. Baby has practically everything he needs for his first visit home! I still can’t get over how cute the baby clothes are (loving the Petit Lem brand). How is it that baby things can put you in such a good mood?

Dreams of Velvet - Baby Update 2

This is a gift from a client of mine: a Carter’s cuddle blanket with rattle and an attachable loop for baby’s pacifier. I love Carter’s for their variety and affordability, and can totally picture baby lugging this around! Plus, if he really really likes it then I can go buy more than one (shhhhh).

Dreams of Velvet - Baby Update 3

Dreams of Velvet - Baby Update 4

The Keekarou Peanut Changer came highly recommended by my friend Danielle, and was gifted by my youngest brother. The colour seen here is vanilla. This diaper changing pad doesn’t require any additional cover for it, which is one less thing to put in the wash and one of the main reasons why I chose it. It has a smooth texture with an easy-to-wipe-down water-resistant surface that is also puncture resistant. It also comes with a seat-belt to safely secure your kid. I’m already looking forward to using it!

Dreams of Velvet - Baby Update 5

Next up, the Stokke foldable baby bath tub in white with newborn bath support. I got this one right away because there was a promotion going on that included the bath support FOR FREE (normally a $17.99 value)! What I like most about this product is the fact that I can fold away the tub and tuck it out of sight in my bathroom. Also, it comes with a plug on the bottom for easy drainage, and fits into my stand shower! Plus, as baby gets older, he can use this as additional storage for his toys, or we can totally bring it to the beach for water play. It’s also available in blue, orange, clear, or pink, and can fit a child until the age of 4. The Stokke brand is very innovative, and I admire their multifunctional products that transition with baby’s age. Makes me want to go out and get the Stokke Xplory Stroller and Tripp Trapp Chair right now!

Alright that’s it for now folks! Baby is doing well and kicking and rolling all the time. Kung-fu in my belly? You betcha.

Until next post: Uppababy Cruz 2015 stroller.

Cheers,

Melissa

UPDATE

Baby James arrived on July 26, 2015! We absolutely LOVE our Keekarou and actually bought a second one, in blue, for another room. It is soft, waterproof and super easy to wipe clean. James loves to lay down on it so it must be comfy! WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!

The Stokke bathtub and insert, however, don’t work well for newborn James due to the steep incline in the insert. Perhaps the tub will be more useful when he’s older, but at the moment it’s much too big for him. We’ve switched to a different way of bathing instead.
