Mizumi at Wynn: Vegas

In Toronto, we are fortunate enough to have a food culture that is diverse and multicultural. When it comes to Japanese food, we are always on the lookout for delicious and fresh sushi and sashimi. While we have had great experiences at Tomo Sushi and Yuzu, we wanted to see what types of dishes Vegas had to offer. After watching Mr. Wynn’s infomercial several times, we decided to settle on Mizumi at the Wynn Hotel.

We had a gorgeous waterfall and koi pond view from our table. You have the option to sit outside but Vegas nights are quite chilly from December until May. Although the view was great and the restaurant was spacious and elegant, we felt that the portion sizes of each dish were relatively small for their listed prices.

Because we’ve had exceptional sushi in Toronto, we had high expectations for Vegas. The sushi at Mizumi was good, but the rice was not as fragrant or delicate as we would have liked. Overall we were not disappointed with the fish; we ordered a chef’s platter, but we felt that the selection could have been more unique in terms of the variety.

Soba noodles and chicken: the noodles were a bit on the salty side, but the chicken was well seasoned with crispy skin. Originally the dish was designed with vegans in mind and used a chicken substitute, but we asked if they could add real chicken instead and they did; the restaurant was very accommodating. The noodles, however, were cut too short and a longer length would have been preferred for use with chopsticks.
